Dr Cottam Orthodontic Practice

Dr Cottam is NOT rude she is honest! I don’t take my daughter to see Dr Cottam for her to be our friend she is a professional clinician who only speaks the truth! if your child is not treating their teeth and treatment correctly Dr Cottam will tell you as it is ….thats NOT rude it’s the truth! Whilst Dr Cottam has been away from the practice the staff have been AMAZING my daughters brace came off a tooth I emailed late on the evening they replied the next day for her to be seen, went to the appointment they fixed it and all was fine. Dr Cottam and her team are nothing but truthful, honest and caring towards their patients and the treatment they are giving Since seeing Dr Cottam my daughter has looked after her teeth like they are made of pure gold because she appreciates the treatment she is receiving and knows she’s lucky to be able to receive this treatment Just to add my daughter has a dual diagnosis of ADHD and ASD so can be challenging at times but this has never fazed Dr Cottam or her staff team Thank you all so much for the fantastic work you do, your time and patience it means a lot to me as a parent Keep up the fab work

I don’t usually leave negative reviews, and I thought Doctor Cottam just has a "cold personality" when I had treatment with the practise as a child, but the way she treated my autistic brother was appauling. It took so much effort to get him to even attend the appointment, but doctor Cottam kept saying things like "why does he not speak?" in an angry manner, and even after my mother told her that he has autism, she still persisted with these rude questions. I will not stand for this blatant Ableism. My brother was very upset and it will take a lot of effort to convince him to start treatment again when he has had such bad experiences with staff who are supposed to adapt their approach to different kinds of children.

My child has additional needs and learning disabilities. Dr cottam was very gentle , approachable and understanding of our situation. She praised and encouraged my son and I for the efforts and difficulties of oral hygiene , especially for an autistic child . She taught me step by step how to clean his teeth comfortably and with less stress ! I have another autistic child who I am doing the same with .After that she ensured that we got a same day appointment for braces ! She and her staff were amazing and very professional .its my second time there and I would recommend this practice . Thank you Dr Cottam for being that difference for parents who struggle and you see that !

My son has been attending this Orthodontist practice for a while. When he first attended he was quite scared especially during his first visit. But as he became familiar with professionals Emma and Shanaz he became very comfortable seeing either of them. They are both so friendly and make my son feel comfortable and at ease when they sort his braces as this is a tricky process. He was seen by Shanaz today who was amazing. She has a very positive attitude and has excellent patient care skills. Her positivety encourages my son to ensure he keeps up with his oral hygiene. Before my son saw Shanaz today someone called Sabrina attended to check my son to check his teeth. I have seen this lady at reception before and have always found her miserable and not welcoming. She never seems to smile. Her attitude today regarding my sons teeth was very condescending and negative. She wouldn’t let me speak when I advised her that pictures had been sent to the relevant email adress and the comments were positive on the email. She scored him 3 on his oral hygiene saying his gums were swollen. I tried to explain that my son’s gums are naturally quite swollen since he was a child. But she spoke over me. Shanaz checked his teeth and gave him a score of between 1 and 2. Sabrina needs some training in client care and how to present herself in a professional environment.

I went here when I was a teenager to have metal braces. It was a very weird atmosphere and when you went into the room where Dr Cottam was she never acknowledged you atall and if she did ever speak it was always in a rude manner like she was annoyed. There were also other patients in there at the same time. I was made to feel like an inconvenience just by being there. The treatment was never explained and she was quite rough and one time left sharp metal sticking out which my dad had to file down as I was bleeding due to it piercing my mouth. I've never met such an unfriendly person who is supposed to be a professional. My dad was not allowed into the treatment room with me so he never saw what I experienced. I would never go back there and do not recommend it.

Had treatment here as a young teenager and the quality of service received was abominable. Dr Cottam was rude, dismissive and extremely unhelpful. Her treatment was painful and not comprehensive enough. I am now having to undergo orthodontic treatment as an adult just to rectify mistakes made by the poor quality of service provided at this practice, which costs an awful lot to do. Used to have to go upstairs unaccompanied as my parents were not allowed to attend the appointment with me which meant they had no idea of the treatment I was having. Children should not have to go through this alone.

Practice accepted my NHS referral for my toddler even though they had no experience or idea how to help him, wasted time of our day and taking time away from work to attend this appointment to be dealt with so poorly!! As a parent who is worried about her son’s teeth Dr Cottam’s behaviour was appalling! With so many years of experience i would expect better customer service. She was rude and dismissive of our issues and gave us no help what so ever, i would never want her, in the future, to be dealing with my children. I can see i am not the only one who feels this way after reading your reviews. Hopefully Dr Cottam can humble herself enough to identify these concerns
