Hartog Dental Practice - Winchester

My 9 year old son with special needs has recently visited with toothache. The hartog team managed to get an emergency appointment the same day. Mehdi and Lucy were brilliant with him and the treatment given has resolved the pain. Couldn't recommend the practice more - Huge thank you to you all!

I had a bone graft and sinus lift done on 4th July 2025 , with the view to have implants going forward . Mr Sanjay Sharma did the bone graft/ sinus lift for me . I can honestly say it’s the best dental experience I’ve ever had. Over the years I’ve had to have very invasive dental treatment /surgery , as a teenager I suffer ed various bacterial viruses which resulted in operations and tooth loss. I have also been under the care of Dr Mehdi Husain, who has worked closely with Mr Sharma over the last few months to come up with a plan to enable me to have implants . I’ve had little to no pain , some swelling which is subsiding 48hrs after the surgery and the stitches aren’t causing any inflammation. I have followed the instructions on hygiene to the letter as I feel that I have a responsibility in this process which will affect the outcome . It is expensive , but I’ve made the choice to put my health before buying a new car … I know I’ve made the right choice . I am feeling most grateful, and humbled to be under the care of such a skilled team .. Thankyou .

This is a smart and expensive dental practice. I thought I was paying for the very best but was sadly disappointed. Expect long waits in reception: several times I experienced waits of 30 to 40 minutes - no one notices or apologises. If you are unhappy with your allocated dentist there is a fee to change to another dentist in the practice which I refused to pay. No one questions why you want to change. I experienced a number of issues with my treatment some of which was substandard and I had a very poor outcome. I followed the complaints procedure detailed on their website at that time but I found it difficult and time consuming to get any response. It took several attempts to speak to the Clinical Director by phone (I was told she is a busy working dentist) there was certainly no sense of urgency to speak to me and I felt that my complaint was not taken seriously. I was eventually offered some credit for remedial treatment, nevertheless my treatment plan doubled in cost and they left me with long term dental problems. I have never received an apology or any written confirmation of my complaint. I understand that sometimes things go wrong but a good dental practice will be proactive and reactive when they do and, in my opinion, this practice is neither.

I had recently had an implant at Hartog, while it was successful, I did not and would not choose this surgery again for further implant. The maxillofacial surgeons perform the surgery and you see a restorative dentist for other appointments. The two surgeons are in the surgery on alternate Fridays and I was told they cannot be contacted outside these days because of their NHS roles. It felt impersonal because you do not see either the same surgeon or dentist throughout your treatment. There is no reassuring automatic two week follow up appointment after surgery so you have to self-diagnose any problems and then ask for an appointment. The 1 year ‘guarantee’ for the implant as stated on the information sheet: ‘is dependent on you following the ‘prescribed hygiene and maintenance programme’ and ‘you will need to attend the hygienist quarterly’ an expensive and, according to my current hygienist, over the top requirement if you have good oral hygiene. I was kept waiting several times for anything up to 40 minutes before my appointments. I had my next implant at another surgery with an in house implant specialist which was more professionally managed and therefore a far more efficient, reassuring and positive experience throughout.

I was referred to Hartogs for Peridontal work by my existing Dentist and my experience has been excellent. I was impressed with their professionalism and general care - I have needle phobia and the work I required was pretty invasive, but they were both patient and empathic with me explaining the proceedure and giving me extra time to 'centre' myself, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I can not recommend this practice highly enough. My dentist Mehdi is professional, extremely pleasant and unbelievably patient. For many years I had been very unhappy with four front crowns and was therefore beyond fussy about getting them right this time. Mehdi was equally determined to make sure we got things right and was so kind in listening to all my little requests. I now have confidence in my smile again and found the overall experience exceptional. He is by far the best dentist I have ever had. The other staff are also very pleasant and professional.

I was recommended this practice by a friend .. I am extremely impressed by the whole team I. staff treat with care and compassion and greet you like an old friend. . I look forward to my appointments . And would not go anywhere else. I would like to name Ross and Medhi for their outstanding service
