Handforth Dental Practice

2.3

Address is a dental practice that has recently transitioned to a private-only service, which may impact accessibility for NHS patients. While they have a long-standing presence in the community, recent changes have led to some service disruptions and communication issues, particularly regarding appointment availability and patient notifications.

The quality of dental care provided has been inconsistent, with some patients experiencing recurring issues with treatments like tooth fillings. The practice's shift to private services has raised concerns about accessibility and patient support, making it essential for individuals to verify their current policies and availability before seeking treatment.

I paid on two ocasions to have a tooth filling. Each time the same filling came out after about 14 months. When I called in today, 10.06.2025, I asked to have the tooth removed becausd I could not afford to keep it at this rate. I was then informed that they no longer accept NHS patients and it would cost me over £100.00, or, I could take out a payment plan at slightly less. I have used this dental practise ever since I moved to Handforth over 25 years ago and now I have to shop around for a new one. This is not dental care it's dental don't care. I strongly feel that this is discriminating against NHS patients. I would like to take this opportunity to wish them the biggest financial disaster possible for their future and for their greed.

Was an NHS patient here, we rang 4 times between August 2023 and Jan 2024 for an appointment, the first 3 times we were told they either weren't making NHS check up appointments right now and to ring back a month later, or no Dentist was available because they were short staffed. On the last call in Jan I was told they were no longer making appointments for the NHS as they would be going private at the end of Jan. Asked whether I'd been informed about this I said no, was forwarded the email that had never been sent - it referenced a previous 6 month "stakeholder engagement process" neither of us had heard of, and that they would be going fully private at the end of Feb, and patients could still use their services until then (we can't). Absolute joke - no dentists are taking NHS patients so now it's private or nothing.

Umar Butt is a very good dentist, caring and professional. However, staff is terrible in dealing including practice manager. I tried to book for emergency appointment for my wife for tooth extraction which Dr Butt told her months ago that it had to be extracted but it was delayed due to covid situation. Few days back she suddenly had severe pain and I tried to arrange emergency appointment. Umar as usual was not available (good doctors always busy) so went to new dentist who again took xray and reconfirmed extraction but refused because she did not have time. She was sent home with advice to wait for another appointment and take painkillers (terrible service). 2 days later she had severe pain again hence tried another emergency appointment but staff was terrible, not helpful at all. Receptionist said no doctor was available, she should continue taking painkillers and wait. I complained to manager, she wasn't any better, sided her staff. End of the day we had to go private to get out of this misery. Terrible service and rubbish, inhumane staff.

Really bad experience here. One dentist started a treatment and then when she went on leave I was passed to another who didn’t have a clue what she was doing or why I even came in for the 2nd part of a root canal treatment! To top it off I was told it was a specialist treatment and that someone senior would call me to discuss. 2 months later no call and the temporary filling has fallen out and instead of finishing the filling, they leave a hole in my tooth, and me in pain with antibiotics!!! I will not be going back there for sure.

I found this practice quite unprofessional; especially the receptionist team. On numerous occasions they have made mistakes such as forgetting to stamp prescriptions, and changing appointments without notification. On one occasion I had to explain the NHS Band charges to the receptionist staff myself, instead of the other way round as I was being overcharged! That in itself is quite ridiculous. The hygiene of this practice leaves a lot to be desired. Gloves aren't used as often as they should and the dentist (Dr Amir) doesn't clean his hands after using dirty equipment such as the keyboard and mouse. The dentists have a young team of helpers who are raucous and overly loud - one in particular likes to dance and swivel in her chair/while taking xrays as you are getting treatment done on your teeth. I think someone needs to remind them this is a family-oriented professional setting, not a nightclub or college common room. All in all it's not a very professional place with regards to ambience or staff. My wife and I have switched to Foxland Dental in Gatley which is miles better in terms of staff friendliness, professionalism and care.

I went to see Amir, and was treated professionally and with the utmost warm welcome you could imagine at a dentist. Loved every minute of having my teeth pulled out 🥺. But honestly, Amir made my experience so easy and as enjoyable as possible. Gave me the necessary information and was vocal about every step.

Had my wisdom tooth filled by Dr Shergil. three days later when I was eating pasta the tooth shattered! Went again and they filled it again. But was feeling funny and a bit painful. Went to another dentist and he said they have done a VERY temporary job! But after he did it it has been fine for 3 years now.
