Dovecote Dental Care

Dovecote have been helping me on my journey to.use a Somnowell mandibular advancement device for my sleep apnea. The surgery is in a pleasant countryside area and the receptionists are caring, on the ball and friendly. The dentist Joe McRae puts you at ease with his laid back approach, very different from childhood memories of intimidating dentists, his style is patient, friendly, welcoming and is ready to answer all your questions, never rushing you away. Katie, his assistant is on hand to help with everything and her beautiful smile lights up the room! These two make a great team. They make you feel genuinely cared about as a patient. Highly reccomended.

I was registered with a different private practice but they were unable to fit me in until 2 months time - so I called Dovecote on the off chance that they may have an emergency appointment available and they were able to fit me in within the hour. Absolutely fantastic service - all the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Joe and the RDN had such a lovely cheery disposition which really put me at ease. I was so impressed that I’ve decided to remain a patient there permanently and for once I don’t dread having to go back for the second part of my treatment! Thank you all so much.

I moved to the area recently and found myself in need of urgent help having split a tooth. I couldn't have been happier with the whole team at Dovecote. They were helpful, sympathetic and Joe the Dentist took the time to explain to me what was needed and why. It takes a lot for me to go out of my way and leave a review, but with Dovecote I am happy to make an exception. They have been brilliant.

My husband and I were recommended by a friend to Joe as I had mentioned we had not been to a dentist since covid and that we were both guarded about going due to bad experience with dentists in the past. We live in Marchwood which is not an issue as we had travelled further a field in order to find a dentist that would be an experience not to dread. I can honestly say from the reception and all the treatment that we received from start to finish was fantastic. I had to have 3 fillings a root canal and normally would have been terrified I can honestly say I won’t ever dread my appointment’s again. Joe is amazing he put right all of the work I’d previously had without undermining the awful work that I had previously had and ensured everything was just right and affordable. My husband who I thought would need more work done than myself didn’t was so impressed as Joe unlike other dentist explained options with an existing army filling rather than making more money at our expense. Both of us also had a visit to the hygienist who was unbelievably thorough. I can not believe I am writing a review about a dentist as all my life and at 55 years of age have been so frightened this has all changed hand on heart Joe and his team are amazing.

21st April 2026 Updated Review Joe is amazing, very calming with patients and teeth look great after removing old filings. Pre 2026 Review. Cannot recommend highly enough the team at Dovecote. I was very nervous but both visits Isabelle and team great.

Absolutely amazing dental practice. My Son has been in terrible tooth pain and they tried everything they could to try remove the tooth but unfortunately as he’s so young (5) he couldn’t sit still. They really tried with our little one and had so much patience. Thank you for all your help! It really means the world to us.

I cannot speak highly enough of Joe McRae. I am a very nervous patient (terrified probably describes it better!) and Joe is kind, patient, understanding and knowledgeable with a lovely sense of humour that diverts me from my panic. I had to have a wisdom tooth removed and Joe explained exactly what he was going to do, making it sound very simple which reassured me. I did not feel the tooth being removed, I had very little pain following the extraction and the gum healed well. In all my 65 years, I can honestly say that Joe is the best dentist that I've ever had. I would not hesitate to recommend him unreservedly.
